Miss Can't Miss clinches SA Amateur Double

Teenage sensation Ashleigh Simon clinched the womans 2006 Sanlam SA Amateur Stroke and Match Play titles at Pretoria Country Club

Amateur Ashleigh Simon continued her unrelenting rise to the top on Friday when she wrapped up the centenary Sanlam SA Amateur Championship Stroke Play and Match Play double at Pretoria Country Club.

Just three days after winning the Stroke Play title for a third year in a row and then looking close to unstoppable in her charge through the quarters and semi-finals of the match play that followed, the 16-year-old comprehensively put the seal on her double triumph by crushing the luckless Lumen Lausberg 7/6 in Friday's 36-hole match play final.

This follows just weeks after the South Africa's teenaged amateur golfing star and the SA equivalent of Michelle Wie won the Nedbank SA Women’s Masters by upstaging some of the best professionals from Europe and South Africa in the European Ladies Tour and Nedbank Women's Golf Tour co-sanctioned event.

The Nedbank Women's Golf Tour was dominated by its foreign contingent this year, but Simon provided the best of the local challenge to the plethora of internationals that came to South African fairways.

She shot a two-under-par 70 in the final round of the 54-hole event to compatriot Mandy Adamson and England’s Kirsty Fisher and claim the title.
